wait for HH to sell their damaged and samples and just cut the net off it. NOW YOU GOT 2
"Tenting is equivalent to a bum crawling into a cardboard box, hammocking is an art" KK
well hate to call yall wrong but the netting off is so much better, and by sparaying my diy top quilt with some bug spray stuff the skiters wont even come near me
awwwww yeeaaah!!!
You can buy a Grand Trunk Ultralight at Campmor for $18. Add some whoopie slings and you're topless-- and light
75.00 for their full Mod 4.
I for one choose no bugs keepin my net
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.
Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......
Velcro doesn't just grab forest litter but it will snag most everything else (socks, fleece pants, quilts, etc). It's also hard to get lined back up and sealed in the dark. You'll be really pissed off after you answer that 3am call of nature in buggy territory and don't get the netting sealed back up correctly.....waking up covered in welts is not fun. It's also scratchy so dragging a bare leg over velcro isn't much fun either (another reason I got rid of the slash opening).
I've got the 2QZQ mod and love it. I would have let them sew up the slot entry but zippers can fail. I'd rather not be stuck in my hammock and have to rip the netting because a little piece of plastic broke.
+1 on getting the cheap parachute hammock for "topless" hanging. I've got a castaway parachute hammock coming from STP ($13 and change with coupon). That will be my son's play hammock or my topless hanger. I think that's a lot cheaper/easier than hacking up my HH.
Save the the money and do the mod, sew a zipper yourself, or get another hammock.
Haven't actually done it myself, just spitballin...
If you are looking to DIY and keep prices down, you can probably pick up a slleeping bag at a garage sale for next to nothing and use the zipper from it and get the material for an UQ in the bargain. The UQ mightn't be the latest and greatest but it would be cheap, errr, inexpensive!
