Added Doors To My Hex Tarp

Howdy, all. I recently added some doors to my hex tarp and thought I'd share, since every so often I see posts inquiring about that very thing. I found that my hex didn't quite provide adequate coverage for my bridge hammocks, but I didn't want to hassle with beaks (which I think are quite ingenious, by the way). So, doors it is. The edges are bound with grosgrain, as well as the seam that attaches them to the tarp body (identical to the tarp ridgeline, except the doors seams were sealed since they lay flatter when pitched). Each door can be rolled up an tucked out of the way via a small bit of elastic and a toggle.

I can't remember the finished weight, although the few ounces the doors added mean the difference between wet and dry in my bridge hammock. The interior poles, too, make a huge difference in accommodating my bridge hammock. They also make flipping the tarp up into porch mode when the weather is nice a snap (see last picture).

Note: In one of the pictures, it looks like there's a seam down the center of the panel...that's just a bead of water than ran down.

Really great work. I'm thinking of doing something similar. If you get a chance I'd really like more pictures maybe not in porch mode (I have a gathered end). Also I would like to know details about the size and shape you used.

That's a really slick professional finish. I have been thinking of doing this but I have to admit to loving my DIY beaks

Do you aluminum tent poles on the inside of your tarp?

    I'd rather be hanging.

Very nice work! I've been thinking about making some for my Hex myself.

I would like to know size and shape as well if it isn't to much trouble!

    Nice work!!
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

    Cool setup.

I do love the double pole mod for porch mode.
