    Difference?: Tri-glide and Cinch Buckle

Can someone please explain to me what the difference is between a tri-glide and a cinch buckle? They both look the same, however the cinch buckle has the moveable center tongue.... does this afford it a stronger grab on the webbing?

I don't know about the tri-glide but the moveable center on the cinch buckle causes it to squeeze tighter on the webbing with the more pressure put on it.

You've spotted one of the differences. The cinch buckle does grip the webbing very securely. The other differences are weight, and method of attachment.

    Weights:
    Cinch Buckle - 1.2 ounces/each
    Tri-Glide - .39 ounces/each

    Method of Attachment:
One side of a cinch buckle is typically connected to the hammock's fabric by some cording, while the other side connects to the webbing that goes around the tree. The force of weight in the hammock creates a clamping motion by the moving slider in the buckle's center. See this photo for an example.

The Tri-Glide connects only to the webbing itself. The webbing passes through the buckle 'in one direction' before being wrapped around the tree, then passes back through the buckle in the opposite direction. The friction of the webbing against itself and the bend created by the tri-glide creates the hold. Example. Because the Tri-Glide connects only to the webbing and not the hammock fabric via cording, you must employ some method to attach the webbing to the hammock.

    AS, et al,

    Good summary....

It is worth noting that for hammocks with webbing already attached such as Speer and JRB hammocks....It is a simple slip on the JRB Tri-Glides, and you are ready to go hang....

No modification required, no sewing, no transitional high tek cord to attach the cinch buckle or other hardware....and no knots to tie, not even for back up, none.
