    The Jeep Hammock

    G'Day,

First time poster, long time hammock lover, love this forum,

Here's some pictures of my latest little project being used on the beautiful Fraser Island a couple of weeks back on a camping trip with a couple of mates.

It flexes quite a bit, not too worried about that, just a matter of getting into it slowly, and its quite low to the ground so anyone too heavy for it will just hit the ground before it breaks.

Me in the hammock lying over Eli Creek

    A mate

Where it slides into the tow bar

Top angle (as you can see, its flexes quite a bit)

How i stored it while i was driving around on the island (the horizontal part is telescopic, so you can slide it in to make it shorter) got plenty of funny looks from people wondering what the hell was on top of the car

Packed up completely, it just sits flat on the roof racks

Let me know what you think,

    Thanks ,
    Sam.

Welcome to HF from Mass. Nice first post. What is your stand made out of? It is a unique idea. I would be worried about metal fatigue with the amount of flexing you are experiencing. HYOH.

Welcome to the forum from west Texas.

    Awesome accessory! Thanks for sharing.

I, too, would be worried about metal fatigue. But I like where you are going with this and look forward to hearing more about your progress with it.

    Neat idea!

I looked at your first pic and it took me about 3.2 nanoseconds to work out where it was taken. Fraser Island is my all time favourite destination. Welcome to the forum.

    wow

I like that and who cares about the fatigue....if it cracks, bends or breaks, fix and keep on...hanging with it.Thanks for the idea.

    Thanks

yeah i've thought about fatigue too, but then i get in the hammock and can't be bothered doing anything about it :P, i'm sure you know all that feeling. I'm not too worried about it, i don't use it all that much. I was thinking maybe another vertical bar for the other end (for when i'm using it on regular flat ground, not over a creek) to hold it horizontally and take some weight.

I made it from steel, cost about $70 in material and got my old mans help to weld all the pieces together
