    Ultimatums do indeed work

So the girl and I went on a 3 day trip to Shenandoah NP back in March. After two miserable nights on the ground, I informed her that the next time we go backpacking we would both be in hammocks or she'd be sleeping alone on the ground.

We're headed to the Linville Gorge the first weekend in October so she can finally have her first real hang.

I setup my hammock on the back porch the other night and let her have a few minutes in it. She's hooked now. I, of course, was *forced* to order a new BB 1.1dbl and an Edge tarp so she can have the BB 1.7 single and the MacCat Standard.

For those of you that are still arguing with a significant other about hammocking...just keep at it, they will convert! Attached is a pic of her in *her* BB.

I'm a spoiled brat and not sharing my hammock! Seriously,,, my wife of almost 23 years will not go backpacking with me. She will drop me off, pick my smelly self up, listen to my stories, ignore me when I buy yet more gear, and anything else related but if she can't take a shower and sleep in a bed she's not going. To each their own and more for me is my reply!

Glad ya'll are heading to the Gorge with some comfy hammocks! I'm sure it will be a memorable trip for both of you!

I'm lucky that my wife was an experience backpacker before we met. She traversed the Olympics and did the Wonderland Trail. We do a lot of day hikes together. She tried my Hennessy Explorer and got on the phone while she was in it. I had set it up to try some new insulation and had to take a long break until she was done "testing." She liked it.

I'm reminded of the time we took our then teen-aged daughter on a three day to the Olympic NP beaches and she asked, "what kind of showers do they have?" Rain, Dear, just rain. There was an outhouse, which probably saved the trip

Well I have the husband that refuses to convert. Mostly because he doesn't want to *sleep alone. I don't think I'll ever convince him to hang. :P

Ladybird, have a look at the Clark Vertex.

It's a bit spendy, but no more so than if you bought two separate setups. I really like the idea of the gear storage between the two hammocks. Its all right there with you.

For the Gorge in October, just be sure that you have adequate insulation underneath to avoid Cold Butt Syndrome ("CBS").
