Great trip report SBD. i was up two weeks ago and spent about two hours in the dark taking every dirt road garmin suggested to dead ends before i finally made it into Masten around 11pm. hiked to the Rock Run/Yellow Dog Run confluence and camped; then the next day was just too stinkin hot so i hiked back to the car. i plan to return in September to do the whole loop. can't wait.

for everybody contemplating this one here is a video of the Rock Run pools that shows the beautyosity of that particular spot:

thanks Ishmael! great to hear from you! sorry your trip went a bit wonky. we had a tough enough time finding Masten in the daylight! worth it though. and thanks for posting the video - it really is one of the prettiest streams you'll find. cool water was plentiful on the trail, even with the summer heat. should be amazing in the fall!! hope to see you soon.

Thanks for the report and pics Sweetbabyd. Kudos on overcoming the downed tree sorry you got skunked by the roadblock (you too Ishmael). Before doing my trip to OLP in may I called the ranger station and they warned me of the closed roads. Funny because I usually just do and don't call. Rock Run alone is reason to do the OLP. Ishmael's video so made me want to go back again.

Thanks for the report, picts, and rekindling memories.
The OLP is on my revisit list. Have you done the Loylsock
Trail? I think you would love it.

thanks Knotty! 'twas your report that inspired me. this time i called the park office about the Black Forest Trail to see if any of the roads were closed!

Great report and those Newts sure are cool!

With your friend Janine being able to carry a 40ib pack and rip trees in half, she is both terrifying and attractive.

Glad you ladies had a fun time and that is one sweet looking tarp. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the trip report and pictures.
