how low can i go, without freezing my a** off

i made a diy uq out of a colman 20 degree bag + a tq out of the other part, everything tucks nicely, how low can igo in your opinion (with no wind)

In my experience coleman products are usually a little over rated for comfort. I would say probably 35-40F would be the max comfort zone. But really you need to get out there and test it out. You may find it gets you closer to 20F than expected.

I second the above post. If you can get the wind to stay off you, just that will help you sleep warmer. I find with Colman sleeping bags they usually have no baffles. You might potentially get cold spots on the seems. I really hope you can get 30* out of it and I will be watching this thread to see how low you can go. It sounds like just the option I am looking for to provide my wife with insulation on the few times she hangs a year.

thats good to hear. I also was thinkin about 35. but like it was said. tarp blocking the wind is a huge deal

one way to find out. winter car camp ... so if you get too chilly you can run to the safety of your auto. test yourself.

I did the same.. but I was sleeping in a 20* northface mummy bag and wearing my old army polypro undies. Last November we had a crowded hunting camp on Tug Hill, NY with a lot of snoring so I took to the trees outside. I slept very warm into the high 20's with wind freezing rain and snow that night.

I cut up the Coleman with a red nylon shell and flanel liner which had a rating of 20*-30* on the rating and made a UQ bulky and heavy though

We already have mid 40's in the ADK's at night
