Wal webbing?

While browsing the dollar bin today, I noticed webbing was being sold there, too. Of course, a lightbulb went off, and I was wondering if this is acceptible for supporting hammocks...

The first kind I noticed was a material I had never heard of, and cannot remember. But then I noticed that there was some made of polypro. I was thinking about calling the company to see if they can provide a weight rating...if I do, I'll post the results here...

Has anyone ever used the webbing they sell at Wally World, or know anything about it?

I have tried it once when I first started out, and it snapped on me

. It was about 1", and was very easy to sew. The only down side is that I do not know what it was made out of, but I figure very cheap nylon or polypro.

i've used it & some others as well.
i've had it break on me at least once & showed signs that it was getting ready to on a few other occasions.
bottom line in my opinion is that it can work but i dough that it comes from a source that has very high or reliable quality standards.
falling to the ground in your hammock may not sound that bad, & sometimes it's not, but i chipped a bone in my elbow & know at least one who bruised his tail bone... i wouldn't skimp on my hammock supports. they aren't expensive enough to justify the risk of injury... or having to sleep on the ground

I am using some webbing from Wal-Mart, but not quite what you're talking about.

In the camping section at Wal-Mart, I was able to find a set of 2 ratchet straps for just under $10. The straps have a 1500 lb breaking point.
I had to go through and cut out the stitching so that I could remove the hooks, then re-sewed it by hand. It's pretty easy to stick a needle through, so it didn't take too long.

I figure that I can't beat the $10 price tag, especially since it's for two 15' straps. I have to keep remembering that they're in the sporting goods section, not in the automotive section, though.

I bought a whole thing of it 30 feet I think. I wouldn't hang with it but it makes a great leash for my dog.

yeah, i was talking about the stuff you can buy by the yard in the fabric dept.
you might find something a little more dependable in the auto or camping section???

I bought the same stuff as froldt. No problems so far. I called the company to find out what type it was and they said polyester. The 1 inch straps were made by a company in Ohio called Cequent.
