THere is a difference between fixing and improving.

We improve gear, not fix it.

While everyone has stated the dangers of 550 cord I would like to note that Ive slept two weeks on a turtle lady stand with the ridge pole hung with braided 550 cord. It's a three strand braid with about four inches of splice stopped with simple over hand knots on both the start and end of the braid. I've had about one inch of stretch and had to move the hammock up a link on the chain it is attached to, but other than that there have been no problems. Not that I am not expecting it to fail eventually.

Let's not forget there's paracord and then there's paracord. There is a lot of cheap stuff floating around that is braided and not the multi strand genuine stuff that is almost certainly going to be weaker and less reliable than the real thing which I understand is only made by one or two companies.
