    Renewed hope

Hi I'm Dis*. this is my first forum, my first post ever. I mostly car camp, scouts & family weekends. I'm 47, 6'4", 350 lb. comfort is a must but requiers a lot. Big chair, big cot, big tent, big load. Not great but you do, right. So flash back 3 + years, gander mountain and there it is, a eno double eagle and it's mine. next summer camp (mid aug) in the air by day cot by night. On the last day to get a jump on bug out we brake camp for a night under the stars and it's me for the first time overnight in the hammock. I hang a wally tarp and all is wright with the world. Next fall camp back to the trees, but my back is cold and I don't last the night, back to the cot and after a few more failed nights the hammock becomes just a fun camp accessory. Sadness! Now late last night checking out camp stove videos. I see a couple with shug, than a few with mrbabelfish5, then one of his hammock gear. COOL!!! He sits shug's hammock series. Well 11 videos latter I am jazzed. Yes, I CAN drop the cot, people ARE doing it, like for real, camping in the sling only. I have been going at it all wrong! I see the error of my ways. praise be to shug! I have found the promised land. I need to get makin' stuff. I will be a diy guy. I have more time than money. First is a warm sleeping bag under quilt. Then a good tarp, might by that. I welcome any ideas, links, or videos, yes defiantly more videos for making it down and dirty. comfort over style, price over pack. So off to the drawing board. Thanks for the help in advance. Diz*

Welcome aboard! If you want a cheap way to keep your back warm, at least until October, buy yourself a poncho liner from a disposal store. You can even tie it up with the tabs it comes with, although it's a little ungainly that way.

Under no circumstances... repeat under NO circumstances go into the DIY sections. Protect your sanity at all costs. Stay out of the DIY sections... That way lies madness......
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
