Wow! I've been following threads that address hanging sidebyside, because I'd love to get my son out in a hammock, but I'm afraid the only way he'd do it is if he was right next to me. This setup looks interesting. Hope it works.

So many trees, so little time...
Do you really need all those ropes? What about one really strong pair per end? A block and tackle system could give you the tension you desire Components would be available at a sailing store.

Ahhh I see.... So you definitely need the upper and lower sets of lines at least. Makes sense.
My idea is to make sort of a loop with a tackle on one side. Picture it tied to the spreader bar, up through a biner on your tree huggers, and back down to the spreader. Using 2 x 2 sheave blocks, one with an integrated jam cleat, would permit tensioning. Jam cleats are easy to unhook under tension- just pull the rope out. Of course you'd need one of these rigs at each location where you have lines currently. My idea could be pricey, and maybe not the lightest out there.
Oh duh... This is neither simpler nor cheaper than ratchet straps.
Thinking more... You wouldn't need to go as complex as my initial thought. A single sheave block on each line would still provide a 2:1 mechanical advantage. This block has the integrated clam cleat that I mentioned.
Still pretty pricey, but it would do what you ask. ( I think )

Yeah as I was typing it I knew it was a little overboard.
