    HH Expedition A-Sym Carabiner mod?

Does any one have any info or suggestions for replacing the stock spectra line suspension with a carabiner? Is it possible to replace the whole line and just attach the hammock to the biner or should I just cut (I prefer not to) the stock suspension leaving about 6 inches and then tie that to the biner?

FYI: This is the older Expedition A-Sym model not the new zip one if it makes a difference.

    Thanks,
    John

You can replace it. You need to cut the zip ties holding the knot cover in place. Once you see the knot it's not too hard to figure out what to do next. There's a thread here somwhere that illustrates installing whoopie slings on an HH.. That will help.

Thanks for the video. I had actually watched that a bit early. I noticed there are two possible holes that you can put the biner through. Is one preferred over the other?

The "knot" has several wraps around the hammock fabric that keeps the whole thing together. Just putting a biner through the holes will cause the fabric to tear and you'll likely end up on the ground.
If you want to put a biner connection near end of the hammock I'd suggest you use a "continuous loop". This is a 12" loop of amsteel that you'll wrap back in place like the stock hennessy knot then attach your biner.
The JRB complete suspension is set up this way. I think there are some videos on their site or here on the forums to showing how to install.

    Good luck

I installed whoopie slings on mine. To attach a carabiner, I would tie a figure-8 loop knot in the stock rope and trim the excess. You can't hook the carabiner straight to the fabric and the short loop/rope is strong, light and simple. Trim the rope after tying, as the knots use a lot more line than you would think--- 6" is way too short. You could install Amsteel loops, but there wouldn't be much reduction in weight for the short length involved.

    like stated before..

I cut the ziptie and removed the covering part. The standard cord has a loop there that I use with my carabiner (Black Diamond Oz, drip ring too), I did cut the cord on mine and now for about 5 others as they asked me to help them out a bit (taking a knife/pair of scissors to a new product is a bit awkward for many people).

From the biner my whoopie slings with permanently attached treestraps/huggers... so nice and smooth a setup....

And I use the same with my Ticket to the Moon (single).

    Happy hanging!

    Grtz Johan
