    PLUQ - hack job

Ok so this is my first DIY for the thread injector. Seriously have only sewed to pieces of bed sheets together and hey Im off to the races. Im naming this quilt HACK JOB. Here is what I did not that it is ground breaking.

Picked up this PL at the local CAMO COUNTRY store at $24.00.
Picked up 3 rolls of 1 1/2" grosgrain. I only needed 1 roll for the job so $3.49 per roll.
Picked up 60' of 1/8 shock cord for $9.00. I only needed about 18' so @ .15 a foot was total of $2.70.
Picked up a roll of extra loft quilt batting that was 45" x 60" @ $4.00.
I had some cord locks but I think a set of 4 is around $1.00 I used 8 so $2.00.

So total cost - less the broken needles and thread cause your better than that - $36.19

I slept under this thing last night directly under my vents and got pretty hot.
I know it will perform well for the summer / Fall. Cant wait to see how far down it will go.

Again HACK JOB is what it is. A cheap summer quilt that only looks good from across the room. Kind of like me. It was a fun project and I think I will make a TQ next from another PL.

So 3 pics. One flat and 2 others of the ends pulled closed.

don't forget the 'triangle thingies', to help keep the gathered gaps to a minimum..this will become more important as the temperatures decline. YMMV, HYOH, etc, und so weiter.. KM

I think you are speaking of "darts". I chose not to try to put darts into this project as it is going to be a Summer Quilt and I am a "NOOB!" so the sewing of the darts was not in the cards on this one. At this price I can do another.

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

Oh man no. He is talking about these. They do wonders for an underquilt.

So finally some colder weather here in the South. I know 57 brrrrrrr. Its going to drop a little more tonight but the great news is I get to start testing the PLUQ and TQ. Got out there a little while ago with a pretty good wind no tarp in the WBBB and quilts. My feet were sweating. Cant wait to get a few more degrees drop and get back out there. I have no idea what temp they will get to. I am finding that I dont know jack about adjusting the UQ. I snugged it up quite a bit but have not used the triangle things yet.

sounds like you're on your way. I have found that PL UQ's with no additional loft are good to the mid-40's. High loft should take you into the mid-30's? only the weather will tell...

RE: UQ adjustment: Don't pull the end gathers too tight, or it will open up the fabric under your shoulders, making you cold... a light touch and "just closed" is right for me...
