    Hammock stretch.

So been hammocking for a while now. I feel like I know what I am doing for the most part. So here is the thing. My hammock has developed a stretch. I have poly straps and a cinch buckle system.i have checked repeatedly for wear. And the bar in the cinch buckle is straight. I am using a 1.6 fabric. The hammock is roughly 3 years old. And there is usually 220ish pounds in the hammock. I'm at a loss. If anyone has any ideas I would be glad to hear them.

It's common to get a little bit of a trough or saggy area in a diagonal area where you lay repeatedly. I find this quite often in some of my bedroom hammocks. Often a good washing will tend to "reset everything". You can also lay opposite sometimes or flip the hammock over and see if the feel of it changes slightly.

I'm just going to second Papa Smurf on this.

I sleep in hammocks pretty much every night and it's a problem even on 1.6 hexon. But it is normally extra comfortable as it is stretched right around my shoulders to relieve a little bit of squeeze.

But just like with your t-shirts a washer and dryer reset the fabric fibers.

There are two ways a fiber can change over time in response to forces pulling it: stretch (elastic deformation - it goes back to the original shape when the force is removed) and creep (non-elastic deformation - it gets longer and stays that way even when the pulling stops). Both happen to most (all?) materials, but stretch is more noticeable because there is a much bigger change. The universe, in its wisdom, says, "Deal with it."

When you braid the fiber into a cord or twist it with others into a thread, then weave that thread into fabric, you're introducing another shaping factor: friction. Stuff slips when forces are applied. Throwing something into the dryer is an (often successful) attempt to deal with that change.

I'll have to check my 1.6 HyperD. I sleep in it every night and haven't noticed anything yet. Actually, I should leave it alone...just reading this thread will probably create an issue That's how it works.

And good idea about washing...I used to wash sheets weekly or more often, so I'm due for the hammock.

It's called "getting your groove on". I like it.
