    Engineers can you help?

I have a great metal hammock stand for a regular hammock. Its rugged, weather proof, easy to take apart and re-assemble, very sturdy (will hold two 200+ lb adults), and will fit in my bedroom or living room. But, it has a big problem in that it is not high enough to keep my HH off the floor. I try to get the hammock as taut as humanly possible, but it still drags on the bottom bar of the stand when I'm in it. Very uncomfortable, not good for bottom of the hammock or my bottom either!

So instead of buying, or making, another stand I would like to make some ends that will give me more height. I made a drawing of the idea I had to accomplish that (hope it's understandable).

C - Thick wall steel pipe. Diameter to fit snuggly over A.

    B - How long should C be?

    D - 1/4" steel plate. Thick enough?

E - This distance will determine how much height I gain. Would love to have at least 6". Dare I try for 10"?

    F - 1 1/4" enough here?

G - 1/2" hole with sides filed smooth, and/or use threaded shacle. (?)

J - Cut a 1/4" (?) plate to cover the end of C, weld that on, then weld the bottom of D to that.

    H - is 90 degrees ok here?

I - I think I need a 3/8" (?) bolt, with wing nut, here, to stop the whole assemble from twisting out of position.

Would very much appreciate any comments or suggestions. I can make all the parts with the tools I have, then have it welded.

What I've seen is people go to a custom exhaust mechanic and have exhaust pipes bent as they need to be. Add a screw eye to each extension and you are in business.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Surely we can help you with this.

It would be nice if you could post a photo of the stand. preferably with the hammock hung and you inside of it.

Then we can get a good idea of how to proceed.

It may be you'll need a different hammock for the stand..or a different shorter suspension that is used for indoor/stand only hanging.

I bought one of these stands on clearance at Lowes and had a coupon so it cost me about $30. It works fine with the eno but the hh drags. I bet it won't after a trip to the muffler shop

if the Eno hangs but the Hennessy does not I would check the hang length. If that is the case you want extensions that are straight tube so they add both height and hang length.

I added pipes to the end of my stand and it worked out great. They are 3'' post I used to make my wood fence.

That don't seem heavy enough duty to me.

Have two HH's now. They both fit inside with at least two feet of spare length. So suspension length is fine.

That would be good outside but a BIG problem inside.

The pipes I added are 8' lengths. If I where to bring it indoors I would cut about 3' off each pole and have no problems with it in the house. Although I have 12ft ceilings the full length pole wouldn't be a problem either.

If you have that much spare length the next question is why does it sag so much? I wonder if it is flex in the frame. An easy way tp look for that is to run a string from one post to the other. Put a small weight in the middle then get in the hammock and see how much the weight sags. If you need to raise the string use strings and tape on the posts.

Another issue is hammock stretch/suspension slippage. Is the Hennessy noticeably looser after you get in and out?
