I have a great metal hammock stand for a regular hammock. Its rugged, weather proof, easy to take apart and re-assemble, very sturdy (will hold two 200+ lb adults), and will fit in my bedroom or living room. But, it has a big problem in that it is not high enough to keep my HH off the floor. I try to get the hammock as taut as humanly possible, but it still drags on the bottom bar of the stand when I'm in it. Very uncomfortable, not good for bottom of the hammock or my bottom either!
So instead of buying, or making, another stand I would like to make some ends that will give me more height. I made a drawing of the idea I had to accomplish that (hope it's understandable).
C - Thick wall steel pipe. Diameter to fit snuggly over A.
B - How long should C be?
D - 1/4" steel plate. Thick enough?
E - This distance will determine how much height I gain. Would love to have at least 6". Dare I try for 10"?
F - 1 1/4" enough here?
G - 1/2" hole with sides filed smooth, and/or use threaded shacle. (?)
J - Cut a 1/4" (?) plate to cover the end of C, weld that on, then weld the bottom of D to that.
H - is 90 degrees ok here?
I - I think I need a 3/8" (?) bolt, with wing nut, here, to stop the whole assemble from twisting out of position.
Would very much appreciate any comments or suggestions. I can make all the parts with the tools I have, then have it welded.
