Heh. I'm back after a good 12 year hiatus and I have everything I need already.

Took a look at what was available currently and well, a few updates were in order. New pack (much lighter than the old 8 lb monster), new boots (old ones literally fell apart at 20+ years old), new sleeping bag (lighter than the old 5lb brick).

All bought on sale for hefty discounts Yes, it's money spent, well spent in my case. Still using most of my gear that is 20+years old. It's still functional and in great shape. So I don't mind spending a bit more, 'cause I'll still be using it 20 years from now. As others have said, get it, use it, love it.

Then I see something strange in the woods strung between trees.......and think "Hey- thats looks like a pretty good idea......"

And here I am at Hammock forums learning something new (and spending a bit more money )

Ya know, there's always the next new thing, but that doesn't neccesarily mean the next better thing. The older I get, the more I seem to find that the solid items that have worked well in the past continue to work well. Sure, there may always be room for improvement, but at some point I wonder if it is really improvement, or simply change for changes sake.
There is a reason that certain things seem to have a wide base and long standing history of success...they simply work, and work simply.
And, one of the best pieces of advice I ever received was "if you find something you really like, buy two, cause they'll stop making it before you know it."

I'd like a nylon wind protector for winter use and a reverse under quilt because my hammock is reversed :-). It never really ends

This is me described exactly to a tee!

On a side note though, congrat's Amac, I hope one day I can say the same thing as that will be the day that I might actually have money saved!

I'm so glad to hear that I am not the only one!

My wife can't understand my obsession with looking at gear all the time. As I am new to hammocks this forum has been great for a gear goof like myself. Thanks to everyone here for normalizing my personal obsessions and for helping me find new stuff.
