Be aware this is an electronic machine. That's not always a bad thing but for the DIY home mechanic you will be extremely limited as to what is fixable should anything go wrong. While it is designed for embroidery and fancy needlework it should perform well in the basic stitches if you want all those bells and whistles. The serger alone could be worth the price. It's a four thread serger so it creates a finished seam line as well as overlocking the edges.
It's not as durable as the older models but Singer has restored some of it's credibility in recent years. It could be worth it.
