Was at Buck Lake last weekend teaching wilderness survival merit badge to the boy scout troop. Quite a contrast to last year as it was hot as hell and extremely humid/foggy, except for when it rained from 8pm Sat to 6am Sun. Nothing really to report back except that the really big oak tree in the middle of the campfire area was cut down/gone and grass was very overgrown (waist high+) down past the posts on the east side of the lake. Boys caught and released some smallish bass from the lake, saw several 3'-4' gators, sand hill crane, and fresh black bear scat in the middle of gravel road about 100 yards west of campfire area and by the fork in the road at the outhouse. Well, I guess that is something to report.

Had a dozen of us there and each scout had to start fire three ways without matches/lighter, so I made it a no stove weekend but we always eat well none the less. We had a lot of instruction to cover in one weekend so we went for primarily group meal prep and minimal cleanup, giving the dutch ovens a workout cooking mountain man quiche for breakfast and Kyle's famous dutch oven pizza for lunch. Rain made for an early Sat night, otherwise we would have had dutch over chocolate cherry dump cake for cracker barrel (late night snack).
Kyle and I are still racking our brains to come up with something special for this year's hang.

How about a Florida hang tattoo ?
Ah, that would take too long.....but what about a brand??? Just keep it hot and ready in the fire for anyone interested. If you mess up with the dutch oven handle you'll end up with a brand across your palm or maybe the side of the oven into your calf anyway. Ouch!!

Serious though, Is the area we have close to auto access? I would be happy to prepare Fajita's, But I need major square footage of grill, and I only drive a Volvo, so bringing a grill or 2 is not an option. Or is there some grills for charcoal at the site(even better) Who should I reach out to about helping with the food situation?
