    John,
Thanks for the suggestion. I am really new to all of this. I was noticing that the BIAS hammocks are all 11' even though some have a 200lbs recommendation. I know that is a function of the fabric and not the design but I guess I am not appreciating the added comfort the longer hammock can bring. Sounds like you would go 9' and 10' or even longer?

I have ordered a lot of material so I can make a few different sizes and try some out.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Heres a quick look at my version of this hammock. It took me several sessions at 3 hrs at a time. It goes together easy and i think most will attest that layout takes the most time. I love the pad slot it works really well with just a 30" slot right in the middle. My seams are functional but certainly not straight. Theres a learning curve! I am 6'1" and 225 and I made a DL 1.1 10'.

Hey guys, I am new to this but am intrigued about the light weight and comfort of a hammock for hunting trips. I want to do my own , the trouble I am having with the drawings is what gets sewn to what.
I have MS and my brain just can't grasp it...( which stinks cause I use to read prints for a living)

If someone could post the pics and describe where each piece gets attached that would be greatly appreciated( I am looking for a black bird design)

    Thanks Bigdaddy

Check out posts 48 and 49 in this thread. Leshka did a pretty clear job outlining the seams.

Thanks, made 9ft version, at first it seemed too big, hated it a little bit, but on a trip I started to love it.
    Here's some pictures:

I like the roominess of this hammock, I can fit my backpack into a hammock, though it has a tendency of leaning onto bugnet, it needs some modifications to be safe.

I'm thinking about trying the 10 feet version, though i would like to move toebox section a little bit to the middle in this case.

    Metavo, and ghostcat,

Thanks for posting the pictures. I started on mine yesterday, and will try and do the same. the size issue is better explained, as both of you are almost my same size...6', 220 lbs.

    Thanks!

    Take it easy,

What modifications, if any, do you think would be necessary if you forego the bug net?

I can't seem to get my mind wrapped around this. On the 9' plans:

Are you sewing the 135x60 to the 135x8?

The first diagram is showing the pattern for shelf & footbox.

The 2nd diagram is showing reinforcement for the footbox?

Is the third diagram the body of the hammock without the foot box shown?

You started with a 135" length. But, I don't see the full length being used. Am I missing something?

Broken Halo, hopefully I can help answer your questions.

If I was going to make the hammock without the bug net I would forgo the zipper and just attach the 135" x 8" piece to the main body by a flat-felled seam (see post #118 on a great diagram of the seam). Than just roll hem on all the edges.

Yes the two pieces are going to be connected but there is a full length zipper in between the two pieces. This is where you get in and out of the hammock.

Yes, the first diagram is the footbox/self-side of the hammock.

Yep, that is the reinforcement piece and it is attached to the footbox/self to strengthen the area (like a double layer) between the footbox and the shelf where there is a lot of stress.

Yes the part of the main body (135" x 60") and the side extension (135" x 8") of the hammock is the on the third and fourth diagram. There is full length zipper between the two, see above.

The fifth diagram that looks like a diamond is the pattern for the bug net.

Ok, this is where it took even me a bit to get this at first. The footbox/shelf piece is attached to one side (the 135" side) of the main body and is centered on it. This edge is the side with the long straight edge with the triangle pointing down. If you add all the lengths of the edges that is attached to the main body (76 1/2" + 15 1/4" + 16" + 24"=131 3/4", approximate because the curved piece is a bit more but we are not building rockets here) you will have about 1 1/2" left over at both ends to make the gather end channels with. The other edge of the footbox/shelf piece (the side with the three cat curves on it) is the side that is attached to the bug net. Without the bug net the hammock will stretch out and measure roughly 117" long but once you put the 9'-0" ridgeline that is what really sets the hammock length and the sag in the body.

Hope that helps if you have any more questions PM me and let me know. I have a bunch of photos I can send over to help out too.
