    Blackbird with a MacCat Standard

I have just recently (today in fact) received my Blackbird Hammock. I have an 8 x 10 Equinox tarp now, but I'm going to want to try to shave a little weight off by going to possible a MacCat Standard. Does anyone have any experience using the Blackbird with this tarp? I'm concerned mainly with coverage, where the seam falls (if any), and what size snakeskin I might want to get to fit it in. Any help would be much appreciated.

i'm using this set up and haven't had any problems. i haven't been in a serious down pour but i've been rained on and been fine. i do hang a little lower to the ground with this tarp than my others so the water running off doesn't splash back and under onto my gear.

That's my current 3 season set up too. The blackbird would be no different then any other hammock under the standard. Thoguh the wbbb ridge line is only 100" long and the standard is 125" you seem to have about 8"-10" or excess coverage on each side (which is where I like it the most) after the whipped ends are added to the 100" legnth.. I'd prefer it if it were 132" but it does fine.

Brian makes his cat cuts very deep and they do amazing for a taut tarp, even with silnylon. But you must make sure you hammock and tarp ridge line are close to centered with each other. A few or so inches off and the hammock ends will stick out and not be covered. Also when your wbbb shelf tie out is staked out and the netted side isn't it pulls the hammock outside the tarp coverage. This doesn't matter when you're in the hammock, so if you get out and its raining just make sure both tie outs are stake down or both are lose and not tightened. The only thing I'd prefer is less cat cut on the ridge.

Last week I was in a pretty crazt thunder storm/down pour and the standard worked like a dream. Some stuff did get misted from rain bouncing off the ground. A wider pitched tarp may not have this issue. I love this size tarp, the 7' width is plenty, especially when snow and freezing wind isn't prevelant. I deffiently suggest it and Brians work and customer service are second to none.
