    Army Surplus

    Hello,

    I'm in a tricky situation...

My budget for a tarp is £20 (i know it's not much i'm a student!).

    I found this.... http://www.army-surplus.org.uk/produ...sha-Camo-.html

Would that be okay? If not can anyone suggest another cheap one...?

I think you'll be fine. Compared to the HH Expedition fly, the Basha is slightly larger.

Dutch: Hammock is probably more weight but who wants to lay on the ground? I pee on the ground.

Actually, the basha is 8'x6' which is smaller than the Hennessy Asym However, hanging it diagonally, the ridge line will be 10' which will just about cover your hammock. The Basha is bomb proof and a bit heavy, but does a good job. You can always get a "blue" tarp (sometimes brown or green) from your nearest hardwear store for less than UKP 10 for 10x10 or so. That would serve you until you can afford to upgrade to a lighter tarp.

A Brit bringing twenty quid to the uUS could get or easily make a Tyvek tarp with adequate coverage. They're just over $20 from ebay seller.

I bought one of these a few months ago for £6.95
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAMO-CAMOU...ht_1647wt_1199

It's not particularly light and doesn't fold small but it's OK for the job and provides plenty of coverage. You can get away with a something a lot smaller particularly if you pay attention to siting the hammock - setting up somewhere that provides wind/rain breaks for the 'open' end of the tarp setup.

This one's a bit smaller, lighter and cheaper - a typical green "blue" tarp
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TARP-TARPA...ht_1655wt_1199

Hung diagonally would give you a 12.8' ridgeline, which is plenty big enough

    Hi there
If you can stretch to £30 you can get a DD Olive Tarp. I have one of these and the are excellent pieces of kit. All guy point are reinforced and the whole thing weighs about 800g.

    Cheers

I think i shall go with this one, and then look at purchasing the £30 after a couple months of hammocking.

Could someone explain how i do the open set up? I like the idea of it...

Not arguing, just trying to see what you mean about the blue tarps being crap...

I used one for awhile and the only faults I could find were the poor quality control on grommets (although never had one rip out) and the weight. ...oh and maybe noise.
Anything else? Other than what I mentioned, the 'blue beasts' seem pretty tough!
