Planning SE hang over Christmas

My girlfriend is leaving me over Christmas (she's headed to the Carribean and not inviting me along). So, I have a great opportunity to hang.

I'm thinking of some place slightly warm, like some of the coastal islands down in Georgia, such as Cumberland Island. But I am not afraid of cold weather (have kayak, will travel).

Any suggestions in and around North Carolina or south? Remote camping is preferred, but state parks will do as long as nobody else is around.
