    length of UQ suspension

I know this has been posted, but I can't find it.

How long should the shock cord suspension extend past the head end and the foot end of an UQ?

I'm no expert, but it would depend on several thing, length of hammock, full length uq or 3/4 uq, etc...

Ciphoto, you ate right. There still may be too many variables to answer, but the question should be:

With a 120" hammock how long should the "long side" shock cord be when using the continuous loop shock cord with cord locks?

On my sewn PLUQ which is 60" long I was having trouble keeping it snug under the hammock. Then I found the Triangle Thingys, it moves the UQ suspension toward the center line, lifting upward instead of outward. A lot of variables here and that's where the experimenting comes in. My first TT's were old sheeting cut into shape and saftey pinned to the shock cord.

I make my UQ's about 55" long. With that I use 5' of 1/8 shock cord throughout each of the side channels, plus 5' of 1.75mm zing-it at each end. Each 5' section of zing-it is tied to the shock cord ends, one on the left and the one on the right, and the center of the section of zing-it is looped over the end knot of the hammock. I can then take up slack at the end knot by tying an overhand knot in the zing-it, right at the hammock end.

This makes for a very lightweight (about 1.1 oz), yet versatile suspension.
I also put 3' of 3/32" shock cord in the end channels of the UQ to cinch it up which is another 1/4 oz plus another 1/2 ounce for cord locks. Total suspension weighs less than 2 oz.
