Thats on a single layer of 5.0?

Might have to think about making a TQ with that.

+1 on the CS HL at 5oz/sy. That is some good stuffs if you can get it. Paul is always out of stock. I don't know of anywhere else to get the HL.

Primaloft has to have downproof fabric.

the reason why is because from what i have read/ researched primaloft has to be quilted, whereas with climashield you can get away with not quilting it.

I made a 5 oz/yd. TQ out of Climashield Combat, and also a 9 oz/yd. UQ out of Primaloft Sport, and neither are quilted. Both are holding up fine after about 2 seasons of use.
The reason I like the PL is that it drapes much better, and immediately feels warm against the skin, where the CS takes ages to warm up, all the while sucking the heat out of me. And as far as compressibility, the 5 oz CS TQ packs down to twice the size of the 9 oz PL UQ.
    That's why I like Primaloft.

    YMMV,

What temps can you get out of each? I'm seeking a down alternative quilt.

I haven't done too much borderline testing with the CS, but I know it's rated above 5F, and below 45F!
The Primaloft one, I've had down to 2F and been a smidge cool. I'd rate it about a 5F underquilt. I did a layer of 6 oz. and 3 oz. Primaloft is a great down alternative. It packs just as small as down, doesn't lose it's insulative properties when wet (IIRC, it's something like 70% efficient when wet) like down. It's a win win.

The downside is that it is more expensive than CS, but I think it's worth it.

Y'all probably think I work for Primaloft or something by now. :P

Sweet. Is there a formula for loft when using primaloft? Which supplies do you like?

    Found this lofting guide: http://www.questoutfitters.com/insul...tion%20Fabrics

Looks like making a bag with this stuff is definitely cheaper than down. No quilting too? Baffling seems scarey.

There really isn't too much data on Primaloft for some reason.
I was aiming for a 0F UQ, and got my numbers from here and the CLO per Oz. of Primaloft Sport is .79, so with some simple math, one can figure what weight to get.
I really like The Rainshed. They get an order from me every couple months. They even sent me a couple of pens free last Christmas!
