    Tyvek tarp question

I have looked around alot but havent found the answered I am seeking for the epic question in my life at this moment before I can fall asleep.

How do you all with Tyvek tarps store your tarp while hiking/camping(in your pack)... and yes I know its not in your pack while camping its over your hammock

    But on to my questions.

Is it just a standard fold and tuck in pack?
Are snakesskins even possible or should I even attempt such a crazy thought?
Is a stuff sack your way to stuff your tarp?

Since I am tarpless at the moment this is my best option. I have already gone through 1 Walmart tarp and 1 Rural King tarp with grommets giving out on each one.

    Thanks for the help,

    Zippo

As i don't have a tyvek tarp I'm unable to specifically answer your question, but I can offer a bit of advice. Stop using grommets. They are too weak and will nearly always rip out with one decent wind gust. Use tie outs instead.

Pretty much what I did with my first tarp. Picked up a 10x12 Wally World Blue and a roll fo Grossgain from WW and sewed 6 tie outs on. 2 for the ridgeline and 4 corner tieouts. Held up great till I upgraded to my current tarp.

I have an 8x10 tyvek tarp. Doesn't stuff well. Just fold and then roll to a cylinder, wrap a guy line around it and place in your pack. Bulky compared with nylon tarps.
Agree on the stone and loop type of tie out, most effective and much better than grommets, which are an abomination.

I use a 9x10 piece of tyvek and do the same as PDA. Fold and roll. I also wash it twice without soap in hot water....helps take the stiffness out of it (quieter).

I've got a 9 x 11 piece, and I am able to stuff it (after a couple of washes without soap) into the green 6.75" x 10.75" x 22" stuff sack (the largest in their three-pack) they sell at walmart.

Link to the development of my Hex-Vek tarp. Used last night (trip report to follow), had a moderate wind, no real noise to speak of, and the small rain we had, no leakages. The Ridge Line tabs and side pullouts I made with Tyvek tape and D-Rings worked great. Storage, more of the same, fold and rol, got 2 pieces of shock cord loop to hold together, with a cardboard stake holder wrapped around. Gotta say it is working great, still don't know if I will paint with "Fusion" paint or Dye with Kiwi or not, but it is definately going on my section hike next month on the AT.
