    lightest hammock set up?

I was recently approached to write a blog about the lightest hammock set up.

Figured I would give it a shot:

    http://watermonkey.net/2011/09/08/th...ammock-set-up/

I wonder what everyone else's thoughts are.

    My best,

    Raul

    PS

Please read the ENTIRE blog please.... chances are it will answer most of your questions. Especially the "Additional Notes" section where I do some reflecting on my set up and explain why I chose what gear items.

Dang nice write up. Spot on and to the point. Glad you did this because this question surfaces every so often and it will be nice to direct the curious folk to this site instead of re-answering all over again.

Having a link to your site, I think, will work better as you can more easily edit this if something changes in the future than say a sticky post here on the forums.

    Thanks!

For the 30' ridge line you could use dyna glide, prussiks work great on it, and about half the weight.

You could use 3' straps or whatever with amsteel or dyna glide extenders. Or just use the enxtenders.

You could use a single line of dyna glide for your suspension and just tie knots (I would nevvver do that, haha)

Great write up. I really enjoyed it. Keep in mind my suggestions are to go the lightest. I don't actually do those (except the dynaglide tarp line) because the inconvinence isn't worth the weight savings to me.

Nice. Now I feel like posting the link on WB the next time somebody says a tent is lighter. ;-)

Glad this write up happened! Nice to have that info handy.

Question (didn't get to read the whole thing - read most of it but not all) isn't the hammockgear 3 Season Phoenix Cuben Hybrid a lighter
option than the yeti while still meeting your temp requirements?

    Thanks!

    Hey Rook,

I do my best to write in complete thoughts and after I write it out I look at my work from different scenerios and try to fill in any holes that I may see. So if you read my blogs in their entirety chances are most of your questions will be answered.

But in fairness your specific questions not entirely answered. I dont have exact specs on weights and cost from HG from other members who have bought for the 3 season momentum Phoenix with cuben. I'm talking 3 season with ZERO overfill.

If anyone wants to chime in I'll update if it's lower than 12.5 oz

    Cool thanks for the feedback!

I'll update for the dynaglide ridgeline but it would be nice to have the exact specs.

As for the amsteel straps I'm not sure about propogating using cord as a tree strap due to the damage that may occur.

nice article. very informative and serves as a great cheat-sheet. you should do a vid using this setup with tarp to hammock, from setup through take-down.

if you're ugly you can use a stand-in.
