“The censorious said she slept in a hammock and understood Yeats's poems, but her family denied both stories.”
― Saki, The Chronicles of Clovis
I have no idea what that means, but it did bring a big smile to my face. There is another thread about the metric vs. SAE measurements, but at least there are calculators for that. It is the differences in regional/national slang that I find really interesting.
It always makes me think of my first visit to London when I returned after lunch and was asked if I had "q'ed". Two thoughts went through my mind: "aren't you off by a letter?"; and "isn't that a rather personal question?"

Sheepskins are kinda bulky but verrrry comfy and the ravers? Well, the ones who didnt sh@t themselves and run tended to be so interested they'd come over and gimme a swing, generally hard enough to take me to 90 degrees each side, causing web creak and spontaineous occupant tourettes =) Hey thanks for your warm welcome guys! And especially nice to hear from a fellow midlander and to have another raise-a-smile quote there bigbamaguy gotta keep these groundwellers humour up!

Hi TurboGirl, just saw your post on BCUK so thought I'd visit HF again, it's been ages.
I'm a little south of you in Sussex, hammock camp as many weekends as I can, and totally agree with you about the sheepskins. If weight isn't an issue then I put 2 in for a really cozy night.
Hello again - thought I'd say hi on this forum too. Can't believe how many "swingers" you've brought out of the closet over at BCUK - most of them are on this forum too - we obviously can't get enough swingin' action in just one place.
A warm welcome from Germany where there's another midget hanging in the tree, not biting the dust!
