It's times like that when I turn my wife's own words around and use them on her.

When I walk in the house after work and she's standing there holding a shopping bag I know exactly what's coming next. First she pulls out a very long receipt and slides her finger towards the bottom of said long paper. Then she'll very proudly utter these words, "Look at how money I saved today, honey!"

To her, it really doesn't matter how much you've spent. What matters is how much you've saved. It's twisted, wrong logic, but she clings to it like a booger on a first-grader's finger.

When a package just does happen to come to the house with my name on it, I've got absolutely no shame in puffing out my chest and letting loose with, "Honey, you just won't believe how much money I saved!"

I did tell her it was on sale, which seemed to help the situation. I also had her watch one of Shug's videos. Her comment was, "how can you watch that without laughing?" So, Shug, I guess I owe you one. Thanks! I still have hope that once I get my hammock, I'll get her in it and soon have to start saving for another...

    Not a problem....

First it all gets shiped to where I work. If my boss complains I tell her I get better shipping rates having it shipped to verifed business address. Since I check in most of the shippments its not a big deal.

Second, I always make sure I get something for the wife first to make her feel guilty.
When I wanted to get a hammock I got her one first for her birthday, then she could not complain when I got one. Since then I am not buying hammock stuff for me but for "her hammock". If she complains I tell her its stuff I got to make her more compfortable when we go camping.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

This is why my wife and I do a monthly budget. We sit down and designate how much goes to tithe, savings, bills, etc. That way we know what we have to burn on other stuff, like clothes, hammocks, whatever...We don't make a lot of money, either, but we try to be smart with what we have.

Once my wife sees that we've taken care of the important stuff, she doesn't worry much about the rest.

    +1!

This, right here, is exactly what my wife and I do. It makes things incredibly simple; our bills and savings come to w, which means that she gets x, I get y, and we get z (different from x and y; this is for things we do together) amount of money this month.

With our incomes, it's absolutely necessary to budget well, but we manage.

Wow, I just read all the way thru a zombie thread from 12+ years ago. And I did so on purpose, realizing pretty quickly how old the thread is. Had a nostalgic moment or two when I saw Cannibal's post. (RIP Cannibal/Grant). He really knew how to take zero rated WB Yeti UQs(both zero rated synthetic and down) comfortably WAY below their ratings. If memory serves, he referred to himself as "the human furnace".

Thanks BillyBob for that reminder of Cannibal...I can't remember where it was, but I do remember it was "COLD", and he started taking coats and shirts off because he was burning up...good memories..
