Wonderful! The 1st time I ever got a severe altitude headache was when I had hiked up from a place called- I think- Christmas meadows, back when I lived in Layton, UT. Also did a backpack along a creek that ran to the East(?) of _ with the creek running ~ south to north- at the foot of a Beulah Peak. I think we hiked up to a Deadhorse Pass on that one. There was another hike I did on the south side of the Uintas, but I can't remember the name of the area. These mountains are most impressive!

I was at Christmas Meadows not too long ago with my family. I even took my boys backpacking from that trail head.

Excellent report and beautiful scenery. I fell in love with Utah this summer. Didn't make it to this part, but enjoyed the Sundance area and later the Dinosaur area. Quiet a contrast between the two. I think I could spend a month or two in Utah, no problem.

That is the best reason to take that shot! Mom's like to know that their boys are having fun.

Great trip report; thanks for posting. I love the uintas and can't wait to get up there. I'm a Scoutmaster too -- lots of fun taking the boys out. We did a 50-miler this year too, along the Arizona Trail. Thanks for taking us along your trip.

I had it planned for the end of July but there was too much snow up there at that time.

We were worried, but decided to just go a see. We planned to just find an alternative route if the snow turned out to be too bad. But, as luck would have it, the snow had mostly melted, and we even got a week of no rain, which is very unusual for that area.
