On the subject of a winter hang, I have friends with 140 acres of land they use as a ropes course with cross country skiing in winter. They have a spot we could hang. Lots of spots actually, but there is one - a nice clearing next to a pine forest, and they have built a yurt which has a wood stove inside. They use it for when groups of kids come to camp or have classes.

We could hang out in the yurt and if anyone needed to go to ground the yurt has lots of sleeping bags and foam pads. You can't hang in there though unfortunately, the supports wouldn't be strong enough for that. In fact if you wanted to experiment with foam pads you could borrow any amount of them for the night, as long as you don't cut them of course. It's a 10 minute walk from the car and they have sleds you can use for pulks.

Plenty of opportunities for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. I would have to ask them when they have no bookings for a weekend. It's just outside Syracuse.

It would certainly be a good opportunity to experiment with insulation, what with the pile of sleeping bags and pads they keep in the yurt.

I'm in Binghamton, and I'd be up for a winter hang.

    Just joined

I just joined the forums, so I thought I would introduce myself as a fellow upstate New Yorker. I'm new to hammocking, but I've been hiking and camping all my life.

I am from the Catskill region of New York and I would be interested in traveling upstate to do some hammocking.
