What an amazing resource this forum is! Came to it by way of advrider.com.

My interest in hammocks started in the late '70's, I was using one of those fishnet deals with a backpacking poncho over it, it sure beat laying on the ground for comfort and weight, even when I got cold. The technique evolved into a low hang with my pack used to level things out, no diagonal lay it that sucker.

Next was a tent phase and car camping on boyscout trips, this felt like hoteling with my eureka timberline outfitter 6 complete with cot and Mr Heater. My sons at college now so back to the trees. Got a HH Delx Exp Asm from my wife for an anniversary gift a couple years ago (before I knew about this forum). Major upgrade from the fishnet!

A hammock is about perfect for motorcycle camping, as you can see from the pic, I'm not the first to figure this out [Laurel Fork, WV]:

It was a cold nite, frost on the pumpkin that morning and I forgot my bluepad.

Here is a recent hang in Virginia, Irene came thru the following nite, first hurricane that I've hung in [east of Mt Jackson VA]:

Had that mylar bubble rap (don't know what its called) with this trip, it came in handy to block the misting I was getting from the hard rain. Seems like I learn something on every hang.

Since these photos and lurking on this forum I've added some brass rings and carabiners to the suspension and a continuous ridge line. Hope to repurpose an old mummy polarguard bag into an UQ, guess I need to learn to use the thread injector we have upstairs. Even using cord to suspend it I can feel the potential.

Been through Laurel Fork several times on bicycle, but never camped there. That is an impressive line-up of hammocks!

Gosh, you got the perfect combination there with hammocks and bikes- I bet Irene was a bit of a swinger, I think I'da been expecting the bike to blow away with her!

Irene hit with rain bands where I was, it would clear for a about 20 minutes then pour for an hour. Used shock cords on the tarp and it held up to the wind until morning when a stake pulled free. Actually it was double staked in series, one of the gusts must have gotten a bite from beneath. At least there was no lightening, that freaks me out when I'm in the bear pinata.

Luckily the host of the gathering had a great steel building (like 40x75) complete with kitchen, pool table, pingpong table, hot tub, and satellite tv, it was like a bomb shelter.
