yeah rolled hem foot is not quite as sew and go as they look. I bought some last year and eventually gave up and just chose to do it by sight.

but for those who can master them on light, outdoor fabric they are pretty neat when they work.

I have several and have also gone back to just doing it by hand. Seems easier.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

I think the model that I show in this video is easier to use with the slippery fabric we make hammocks and tarps with. The narrower the hem, the easier it is to include curves (like cat curves). Good luck.

I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

It's a nice idea, and I have a few of them I bought from Amazon. The problem, for me anyway, is the rolled hem foot (feet in my case) was way more fiddly than just doing it by hand, even with 1.1 silpoly.

The amazing @Jellyfish has a really good tutorial or two on Youtube about using a rolled hem foot. She makes it look easy, because she is really good at sewing, and is considered a really good person by everyone.

I made a bridge hammock and winter tarp last year and had trouble with the rolled hem. I am using a Sailrite walking foot sewing machine. I just couldn’t get a consistent hem until I started using Sailrite’s basting tape. I use it a little unusual technique, I stick the tape down, don’t remove the backer tape, then the 3/8 backer to the sticky tape becomes the “mandrill “ that I roll the hem around. The backer tape stays in the hammock. A year later the hem still looks good and the backer for the basting tape hasn’t caused any I’ll effects. Easy and accurate way to make good rolled hems, although I have seen some nice rolled hems without this method, sure worked good for me!

I'm glad I found this! I've known about (and had in my Amazon cart) these feet for a long time, just never bit the bullet. Now I don't have to!
