    Camp Stove

I have completed a basic Mountain Dew can stove, but I'd love to put a wick on the side of the stove for priming, instead of having a fire at the top prime it. What kind of material should I wrap around the side?

Fiberglass fabric works great as a wick. You can get it at auto parts stores. Once you get that, then ditch the Mt dew stove and build a Fancee Feest which uses the fiberglass as the primary fuel/flame delivery mechanism.

I have had much experimentation with the alcohol stove. I also recommend the fancie feast can choice. For me, I prefer a tuna can since it is a little wider and better for the type of pot I have. However, the fancie feast will work just fine. Personally, I've only dealt with the open flame ones. Simpler to make and then I don't have to bother with that wick business.

I use fiberglass "rope" used to seal the doors of high efficiency wood burning stoves. I get mine from a hardware store that sells the stoves and you get it by the foot. it is a heavy braid and 1 foot will do a dozen of Alcohol stoves if it is unbraided first. I then use 24 hour JB weld to hold it in place...works great and much better then when I put the primer under the stove. When you put the fiberglass rope on make sure you put it as low as possible for the fastest prime.

Here is an example and can be bought by the foot locally in most places.
