    About to start hanging

Hi all I am a long time bicycle nut that is about to take early retirement and do some touring. I just discovered hammock camping and can't wait to give it a try. Tomorrow I am going to my local backpacking store to check out what they have to offer and will likely be bringing one home. They sell the Eagles Nest brand so that's more than likely where I will start.

Hello and welcome! ENO's are good hammocks for lounging and day trips. Although I can comfortably sleep in one overnight, I suggest researching some of the camping hammocks available here if you plan on using it for overnights. Some have integrated bugnets, others allow you to lay flatter and have places to stow gear while your in it. Lot of info around here for sure. Have fun!

    Welcome from Central Florida!

If you are interested in January there will be the 2nd Annual Florida Hang at Ocala National Forest.

There will be lots of hammocking folks there who will let you look at their setups and share a wealth of knowledge with you. If you can make it, even if just for a day, come on out.

Here is a link to the planning thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=38422

Welcome aboard from Florida. Good advice from Gumbo come to the hang. You will see every hammock sold and a few DIY's. But January is a long time to wait, isn't it?

Welcome 12Bar to HF from central FL!
My wife and I started with ENO DNs with Guardian Bug nets - and love them!
You are no doubt aware that here in Florida we have to take our bugs seriously. So a wrap around bug net is the only option in my book.
There's no wrong choice - just a first choice.
Get something to get yourself started and then make changes as they suit you.
    Good luck!
    Enjoy!!

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome I will definitely stop by for a day at the Second Annual Florida Hang. Based on what I have seen so far I think I am going to do a little more research before I take the plunge. I intend to use the hammock on extended bicycle tours some may be as long as 2 or 3 months so I want to make sure I get the right one for the intended purpose. Another brand I found is Hennessey does anyone have any thoughts on that or better yet, if you had to pick the best camping hammock currently available what would you choose.
