Nice trip. Any lessons learned on a solo trip are good ones. Darn pickers (you say pricker, I say picker...lets call the whole thing off).

Yes alcohol will get the pine pitch off, but I have left it on because I like the smell. Matches, lighter, and a fire steel (not to rub salt in a wound, but they are on my list).

I just sent you a friend request for facebook. I have a couple more people from this area of the world I will have to send you friend requests for.

If solo trips were simple and without a little adversity, I'd quit going! I cherish every little lesson I learn and obstacle I over come. Builds the confidence, creates memories, and challenges to keep going.

Excellent trip! I look forward to reading about your next adventure!

Sounds like you had a great time (prickers and failing matches aside!).

I'm up for hike anytime. I'll be getting snowshoes before it snows too, would like some company the first time out with them.

I have found that Simple Green works VERY well at removing pine pitch... No alcohol abuse, and no toxic fumes! I can't say how it would work with sap from other types of trees, but it couldn't hurt to try!
