    Feedback on Design - Noob

    Greetings all!

I am new to this forum and to hanging. I have been reading a ton of great information, wisdom from each of you and need your help.

Attached is a design with ideas taken from several of your posts and I would like your feedback on the design and instructions. I am at a point where I am ready to cut and sew.

I am planning on using a strap hanger with buckle for now and if all goes well, then a whoopie. Also after main construction, I plan to add a bugnet using Hangnout's zipper free design.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chef

You probably know this, but I just want to make sure as your diagram does not make clear...

you will be sewing the two short edges of the footbox piece to the long edge of the hammock. The long edge of the footbox piece remains free. Ensure you have plenty of reinforcing to carry the tensile load along the hem of the hammock through the free edge of the footbox and back into the long edge of the hammock.

Not sure you need the side extension if you're using 54" or wider fabric. It's normally there to keep the zipper from snagging the bugnet...

Also, if you're making a DL hammock, I assume you're doing it for use with a pad.

If you use the extension anyway, hem and sew that to the bottom layer, the inner layer you'll hem and then sew to the bottom layer all around except for about 2' or so about a foot from each end. This is where you slide the pad in. . .

OneEye - Thanks for the reminder, yes I will be sewing as you described. Also, thanks for the tips about reinforcing.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

The fabric is 54" wide, I wasnt sure if that was sufficient in width. I'm 6', 225# and wanted to make sure it was wide enough.

If the thought is that 54 is wide enough, GREAT! less sewing for me.
