Back from the FLT. No rain. But the Permatex held up and seem to be sticking really well to my T.C. poly tarp. Even after being crumpled up and stuffed in the bag!

Does anyone know what the waterproof coating is on the Claytor tarps?

A quick search yeilded this from a thread about TC hammocks:

If the the Polyurethane coating is not liberally applied then rainwater would somehow pass through it. I would suggest calling Tom Claytor for some clarification (a replacement?).
So, if Kirkman's (presumably) non-sil tarp is doing well with the Permatex, I am hoping this means I can seal my tarp with it. I may just give it a try, and see what happens...

I have to seam seal my new Packa I got at trail days and I think I will try permatex. I am hoping it makes the seams stronger versus using the spray. It seems like it would have more of a gluing effect.

I've had no issues with the Permatex on my gear. MOF, I'd use that now over the SilNet because it's (A) cheaper; (B) easier to obtain(locally); (C) applies easier, IMO.

Just wanted to report that I had no leaks in my tarp with Silnet on the seams and Silicone Water-Guard on the rest of the JRB Hammock Hut through some substantial rain overnight at RRG this past weekend. It all worked flawlessly, no worries.

I'm sure Permatex's site will list it.

Doesn't matter if he hasn't heard of it, as long as he can get it.
