    HH Rainfly w/ a WBBB

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with an HH Scout Rainfly or HH Expedition Rainfly on a WBBB?

I ask because I own a WBBB 1.1 DL. I am, simultaneously, looking for a hammock to buy my girlfriend, a tarp for myself, and a tarp for both of us to sleep under at the same time. I don't expect her to use her's solo so I was thinking about getting her an HH Scout or HH Expedition, taking the rainfly for my solo WBBB and then buying a large tarp for us to sleep under together.

    Any thoughts?

    Sean

I assume you are asking about the aysm fly.
I've not used it on my Blackbirds, but way back, I used one over a Warbonnet ElDorado with some success. The Blackbirds are larger than the ElDorados were and it barely fit under cover.

Granted, I was just getting started down this hammock trail and very much a tarp newb. Still, I don't think it would be a good option. JMO.

For two the tarp is less important than the site, that said I love my superfly, and the hh hex is big too, but finding a site for two hammocks under either tarp will be more of an issue than the tarp it self.

The Scout would be too small and the Expedition would be minimal.

Getting a site that would allow both of you to hang under the same tarp is dicey, as others wrote. Having a large tarp spread out flatter to cover a wide area won't work well in any kind of wind. You might get lucky and be able to hang two hammocks from three trees in a "V" and have the facing tarp edges in "porch mode" so you can talk, etc. You could experiment with a blue poly tarp before spending a lot of money to find out that it doesn't work.

I would buy another WBBB and have tarps for both-- maybe one small and one large so your collection will all be interchangeable. That way she can't "steal" your WBBB. If not that, get a Hennessy you can use too.

    Thanks for the advice.

I went ahead and ordered an OES MacCat Standard in SilNylon for myself.

We are going to start experimenting for her soon.

The goal here is to find her a comfortable hammock. I was thinking she could benefit from a smaller volume, lighter weight system because she is only 105 lbs. I also thought we could reduce our overall system weight by hanging 2 hammocks under 1 tarp (that and it would just be cool).

Again though, the goal is to get her a comfortable, functional hammock. So if she's comfy in an HH Scout, great, we saved some bucks. If she is comfy in an HH Expedition we saved a few bucks. If she is comfy in a WBBB, good.

The nice thing about the HH's (to me) is that you save some $$ and I can get it at REI so I can return it easily if she doesn't like it. Luckily, I've got a WBBB 1.1 DL that she can easily compare any other hammock to.
