    Hanging in a dorm?

So I am thinking about moving my bunkbed which takes up half of my living space out of my dorm room and replacing it with a hammock. I want to have it suspended with some sort of hooks or anchors from the wall. My walls here are concrete blocks.

    Any Ideas?
Really dont want a hammock stand. I like the idea of easily being able to put the hammock away and have nothing in the way.

I think a stand would be inevitable as many dorms don't allow drilling and bolting to their walls.

I agree with this advice. That said, I like Bradley's approach to the problem.

Yeah I'm pretty sure an RA will tell you that you can't mount anything onto the walls permanently. (i.e. drill, bolt, or nail) Those cinderblock buildings wouldn't last 20years if they let every student drill holes all through the building. Like termites eating away at a wooden structure, eventually the integrity would be compromised beyond repair.
There are quite a few plans around here for stands of different types. This way when you move out of the dorm and, heaven forbid, a frat you will be the envy of whole house. If you're eventually gonna share you "bed" with another you might look into a wide bridge hammock like the Fatboy Hangmat.

Have you thought about extracurricular activities usually from 12am-4am?

I think I would go away from a traditional stand and design something using two vertical 4x4 with a top cap that spans the top and a couple side braces. You'd remove the stuff on the ground to clear up the clutter. Just use some eye bolts with the nut countersunk on the back side to not scuff the wall

I think you will want to use something more substantial than A 2X4 for the uprights. Too much flex.

24 years ago we built a frame out of 2x4s that went up the walls, across the ceiling and back Down the walls on the other side of the room. Nothing was attached to the cinderblock itself. We then used chains and lifted our beds 6 feet offthe floor. Worked great. Never had a problem with it and it greatly opened up our floor space. I would think you could use the same concept to make a frame that could hold hammocks. Just make sure you bring in a couch for when you don't want to or can't climb into the hammock...

I built a stand that might work for you. It was made hanging indoors over a futon. Convertible sleeping arrangements. I used a patio swing and expanded it with some chain-link fence tubing.

    ...in it for pics.

My son's set-up was to leave the bed set-up as a bunk bed, put the mattress on the floor, (use the bed itself as a high storage shelf) and hang a hammock diagonally on the bunk frame. He's 6'3" and that worked for him. He used carabiners to attach the hammock to the frame and would just disconnect one end of the hammock when he wasn't hanging around in it so he could also use the mattress.
