I was the furthest from the rock outcrop...this hammock was about 20 feet from the ledge...

I am the short, fat one sitting down..
I had told him to wait until I got up there to try to hang it...but I was the last to reach the camp site...so they already had it hung...sorta...anyway...he cought ALL the wind!!!
The thought of a close-by strike never realy crossed my mind...the other fella..the one stirring the pot in the above photo, said it ran through his every time the sky lit up or the thunder rolled.

Lightning bothers me more than any other outdoor hazard when packing. I got caught on the top of a small Ozark Mtn (Hare Mtn on the OHT) my first night and some rip-roaring lightning, small hail, and wind hit that site. It was by far the most severe weather I ever ran into on the trail and the top of that ridge was NOT the place I wanted to be. I was pretty nervous until it all rolled through. First night in a new tent and it got put through the ringer. I'd hate to be up at some more serious altitudes in a good thunderstorm!

Heh heh, been there, done that, had the soiled underwear to prove it. Never, ever camp on a ridge if there's any chance of a thunderstorm.

    Fair notice

FWIW, the inventory of cat tail brown 11 x10 Cat Tarps has virtually flown out the door during the current sale.... The present stock is down to two and clearly will not last through the week, let alone the sale period....Moss green may not make the end of April either.... Resupply is expected by Trail Days but not much before....

Glad I got mine. I think I'm going to need it this Friday. I'm doing a 18 mile trip starting Thursday and was planning to take 2 1/2 days to camp and enjoy but it looks like I might be sitting tight on Friday with persistent rain predicted for most of the day. I plan to sit tight under that 'cat-tail brown' monstrosity!

I'm glad I was the one who posted about the sale, though I would hope another would post about it eventually. Glad I could help business along.

Sounds good to me...what do we need to do to get the ball rolling?

I guess start a thread in the Hangouts and campouts section. Where and when do you want to go?

    Alex, etr al,

Recon there are a lot more color blind folk on this site.

There is a clear difference between the cat tail brown and the moss green.... to view the difference..... scroll down to the tent shot at the 11x10 Cat tarp page at JRB...

What you see is a demo model made with both colors in good sun light.... Sun light will make any silnyl color apear fairly translucent, except some blacks.
