"Scrap" DIY Projects

I use spare ripstop for not just hammock things. My cats have this nylon cube thing they like to play in and destroy. So, it is multi-colored from all the times I've had to fix it with different color ripstop.

Just make a tarp. Use lots of seam sealer :P

I used some scrap material to make a backpack neckerchief slide as an award for a scout in our troop who had earned the "Mountain Man Slam", which is all four of the merit badges I am a counselor for (Backpacking, Camping, Cooking & Hiking). I made a tiny sleeping bag stuff sack out of scrap DRW nylon and cotton balls, bought miniature cast iron and hiking boots online and carved an old school wooden backpack frame, stained it then stuffed it with candy (including a couple "Airheads"), glued the pack to the frame and presented it at a recent court of honor. The scout was the first to receive the award so he got a cash infusion into his scout account as a bonus. The award itself might have been a little goofy, but the scout and his parents loved it.

This project takes a lot more time that material but it was a fun one.

It isn't camping related, but I plan on making a bicycle seat cover for my commuter bike and a helmet cover to block some of the wind for riding this winter in New England.
