When to stop using a bug net?

I'm certain this topic has been covered but I could not find anything through search feature or a google search.

When do you guys and gals stop using a bug net? Is it a certain time of the year or maybe a certain temperature? I know at a certain temp mosquitos go fairly dormant, but are you worried about other creepy crawlies?

I have a Warbonnet Blackbird and I use the attached bug net year around. Helps to keep my quilts from falling out when I change position and it gives me a place to prop my arm.

You know, it doesn't hurt to keep the bug net on for a while after the bugs are gone. By that time, it serves as a wind block. Keeps you just a little toastier, which is a good thing! At a certain point, though, I like to lighten my load so I can carry tarp doors, warmer clothes and a heavier top quilt and under quilt.

Here in NY when the temps dip down into the low 40's the bugs seem to be dormant. That's when I move the bug net off.

Yep like Pips said the bug net can hold in some heat when the temps drop and knocks off a little wind. But when it gets really cold I switch to a hammock sock made of breathable nylon for more warmth.

So far, the few times I've been out in the winter I found bugnets good for a little extra warmth.

I agree with the warmth part. I can tell a big difference being in my blackbird with the net zipped than without. But I feel like an extra 10+ ounces in something else, like a quilt or jacket will bring more warmth than a bug net.

Mid-December to early February is about all that I can usually get away with.

Of course, if it's been in the sixties for the high and the forties for the low with no precipitation, I might sleep without a net. That can happen for a couple of days anywhere between mid-November and early March down here. If there's standing water, though, I wait until it hits the fifties for the high and the thirties for the low.
