    Smile Oh my aching back

    Hi Everyone,

Been lurking on this forum for some time. A little more active on Whiteblaze.

On my recent outing finishing the Susquehannock trail I was amazed at how much better I hiked after spending a night at a motel to get out of remants of hurricane Irene. That's when I started to realize that at my age (64) I was not sleeping very well on the ground anymore. Tossing and turning all night and waking up with lots of aches and pains.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered a hammock. Now I am on a cram session on this forum to try and learn everything I can about hanging. I will refrain from asking any stupid questions as long as I can. Forums and search function seem to provide enough information to keep me busy for some time to come.

Hope to sleep as comfortable as some of the posts here indicate. Guess it can't be any worse.

I was feeling the aches and pains when I was a tent camper, but I was only about 30 years old (43 now). You’ve done well to last to 64! When you get yourself set up right, looks like you’re well on your way, you will sleep better than ever – I sure do! The Montbell bag looks warm. Not good, but great “UNDER insulation” is a very important key to happy hanging. Also, A weather shield comes in handy too. You will learn everything you need to know here at Hammock Forums. There’s a fair bit to learn, but it’s worth it. It took about 10 or 15 sleeps for me to get my latest set up juuussst right. So, be prepared to fiddle a bit if something doesn't feel right. Being able to set up at home will speed things up.

    welcome to the madness

I was looking for a lighter weight tent because of back problems when I discovered hammocks. I have only slept in a tent one time since changing over to hammocks (no place to hang the hammocks ) and it was the most uncomfortable night of the trip.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
