My Keens have big loops on the heels so I can use a carbiner to hook them on the tarp line. I'll do that if its raining. I get lazy and leave em on the ground under my HH.

I sharpen a pair of sticks, stick'em in the ground right under the tie out of the hammock, and then i hang the shoes - easily accessible, no critters and dry, well aired shoes next day with no mess on the hammock.

When I had my HH, I tied a line to the internal ridgeline, that hung through the entry slit, and below the hammock/tarp. In the morning I could just pull on the line and put on my shoes without getting anything dirty.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

If I'm wearing trail runners, I just toss them in the shelf on the BB

i used to keep mine on the ground handy till last summer at the first (i think) NEHHA hang at Grout Pond VT. i got up for a nature call and slipped my Teva's on and promptly killed two slugs. Supreme nastiness but it would have been worse had i been sporting shoes or boots. they always go in a JRB gear hammock now.

i do pretty much what shug and planius say - secure the hikers and put camp shoes under the hammock.

if i'm hiking in my trail shoes i put them in the mesh pocket in my ohm [i don't untie them]. if i'm in boots i tied them up and hang from the hammock. crocks are under the hammock and ready for action.

On the ground, under the hammock. Each shoe or boot becomes a water bottle holster.
