Tying whoopie slings directly to tree hugger straps

I want to set up my new WL Night Owl for the first time today, but I only have the hammock, the whoopie slings, and the tree hugger straps--no toggle for a marlin spike hitch, or carabiners. Is this possible? Is there a tutorial that shows how it's done?

Sorry to ask such a noobish question, but a couple of quick searches didn't turn up anything.

You have everything you need! And hey a toggle can be anything, I used a couple of sticks I cut from a hickory tree for ever!

Here's where I learned! It's at about 3:56 on the video.

If the tree hugger straps have a sewn loop on one end, you can go around the tree and run the other end though the loop. A toggle can be a stick, half a strong knitting needle, or any other fairly straight object. However, as time goes by you might want to pick up a pair of Dutch Clips from JRB or a pair of carabiners. They make the job much easier. Enjoy your new hammock, and be warned--it's habit forming!

As ldcakes said, you're all set! Go around the tree with your strap, thread one end of the tree strap through the loop on the other end. Then, use any finger size stick (that's not rotten) or take a couple of extra tent stakes for toggles. You're hangin' !!!

Yesterday a buddy of mine brought me some nice carbon toggles made from an arrow shaft. He even drilled little holes in them so I can tie them to my straps. There's you an idea...aluminum arrow shafts work well too and fun to make!

My first toggles were made from a heavy plastic coat hanger, the colored ones that are about as big as pencils. I cut them with a hack saw ,three inches long and filed the sharp edge till it was rounded on both ends. I drilled a small hole and put on a 6 inch or so length of yellow mason line. My set up now is Dutch clips at the tree and connect the whoopie to the strap with a carabiner( I got the biner off of Opie at whoopieslings.com-$11.00 for the pair) I usually leave it all attached and only remove the tree straps at the biner if I have any sap on the tree strap till I can clean it. I have The same hammock you do and that's my system. I like the biners and Dutch clips best. I can always go shorter by 2-3 wraps around the tree or get a closer tree. If I have to have toggles a Ti. stake will work too.

I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

You can also take the strap, thread it through the whoopie an tie a loop. Use a bow line not in the strap if you have slack. If not just hitch it, the whoopee will still function.

Another option is to take some cord and make a "link" with several winds, joining the whoopie to the strap loop.

If you don't have a strap loop, tie one.

There are dozens of ways to do this. If you're anal like most of us you'll figure a way soasto make for easy take down.

Can do, easy... At the bottom of this post is a pic of how I do just that with a UCR instead of a WS. Same technique would apply with a WS. Here's the post that turned me on to it.
