Arrow OK, can I get some direction on building this hammock?

Next year I will complete my first thru hike on the AT, and am taking a hammock.

I'm getting everything together, and I'm at the point where making the hammock is next.

I'm making a Hennesey clone. I'm a larger guy, so I need to make it a little bigger, and stronger than traditional. I'm thinking using two layers of 1.9 ripstop along the bottom should be fine. I figure after a few months on the AT I will no longer have to worry about that though lol.

I've seen some of the pictures of the hammock headchange4u made, and I love it, I'm using his diagrams, but I am going simpler in that the top will be permanent.

I've also seen some of the pictures of the Hennesey taken apart, and I could not make out the numbers for folding the ends, any help there?

I'm not great with a sewing machine, so I have enlisted Mom in this project, she has the fancy sewing machine, and a surger (not sure on the spelling there).

I feel like I am missing a lot of information here, I'm basically taking and making a tube to sleep in, but I have no idea on where to put the ropes, tie outs etc.

So first step, what's the basic shopping list to make a Hennesey Hammock Clone with a double bottom?

Has nobody made a simple pattern to follow since the Hennesey was disassembled in 2007?

I'm going to try and use http://www.diygearsupply.com/ since he is a member on here, and that helps both of us. Do I need to "donate" to this site to get more information?

    Thanks guys,
    Brad

If you find the folding confusing, use Knotty's gathered end technique - which copies warbonnet's style. Its much more straightforward IMO

Then use the bug net pattern from the Hennessy clone thread to make your bug net. Alternatively, make the much easier Papa Smurf bug net
    http://www.mydiygear.com/pages/proje...bottom-net.php
Then you can leave the bug net at home in none buggy weather.

Thank you PDA, and now I understand what the term "whipping" is that I kept reading.

That seems the simplest way to make the ends, and doesn't involve melting the ends like the Hennesey clone, what are the differences in how it lays?

    OK, issue #2.

I have this tent, really a nice tent, it has 3 sets of poles, 2 sets hold the main tent up. The third set goes on the side, and keeps the tent spread apart. The design is genius level in my opinion as it keeps the tent "tight" in very high winds, the sides do not get hooked to the ground, and instead "float". THEN, the rain fly attaches to this, keeping it tight. The straps that the poles plug into have adjustable buckles so you can adjust tension, and the rainfly simply clips onto that.

I've done a little measuring, and I could copy, and attach the same setup to my hammock making the tie outs largely unnecessary.

I would simply take and add a length of webbing (about 1.5 feet), with buckles on each side where the tie outs are (blue) to attach the rain fly to, and use the same poles as the tent minus one long section. I would need two clips on the hammock to "hold" the hammock wall out to the poles near the top, and that's it.

This would also make the hammock stand up when on the ground, of course I would still need to tie the head and foot out to keep it taut.

Is any of this making sense? Has anyone tried this or am I so far out there they are gonna spring a drug test on me at work tomorrow?

I'm having a hard time visualizing the tent. Can you post some pix?

Also, there are several hammock designs that use integrated poles i.e. Clark NX-250.

Just remember that all these "luxuries" add weight to your pack.
