I believe the plan is to park in the lot on highway 281, right there outside Turnipseed. I guess you could park inside the Turnipseed campground if it's open, but not sure on the closure dates. I think we are base camping the same place we did last year (correct me Bigbama if I am wrong). If you hike back towards the Pinhoti, going out of Turnipseed camp past the last map board, and follow the trail to the first creek, you will see the place. I plan to leave the office in time to be there around 4:30 or so on Friday, so I will keep an eye out for the Hammock crew.

Looks like really terriffic weather. Truly sorry I will miss that. The only saving grace is that I will be up there the weekend before Thanksgiving, backpacking with a buddy of mine.

Y'all have fun, but I may have to stop following this thread.

What about fishing? is there a place to fish? Worth bringing in a pole?

Lake Chinnabee, which is the opposite way down the trail, but not far. None of the creeks are big enough, more like streams. I imagine you could pole fish for bream in the lake though.

OK, so it looks like we have the following hangers joing us for dinner:
    Aboyd
    tight-wad
    Spacecadet

Aboyd.......you are correct on the place for the camp and the direction are correct in every detail.

Taylo.........tell the other half to come it is never just dude time. Amanda, my other half, probably want be doing any hiking on saturday so some girl company would be nice for her. If she is worried about staying warm tell her not to, we will have enough spare gear to outfit someone in the truck.

Spacecadet: Taylo is correct on the fishing it will be good at the lake but its about 3 miles from camp on the trail.

Well I took her to Sipsey this past weekend and she hurt her knee real good so she's not fond of camping right now. Plus we're going to Little River Canyon next weekend, so she's taking a weekend to rest before the trip next weekend. It's been an adventureful month.

I hope to make it Friday afternoon. I may hike from the park trailhead to McDill Point for Friday night and then hike in Saturday. If I do I will be looking for a hitch back up the mountain to the park Sunday.

That sounds like a good idea. I want to stay up on the ridge one night too.
