Did we pick a bad weekend or what? I'm surprised there aren't more signing up. Is this a typical sized group for middle Alabama?

I would love to go, but don't think you picked a bad weekend on my account. I just made a schedule from now until New Years. I only have 4 completely open weekends between now and then, and one of those is XMas.

Sorry I can't make it. I have a year of confidence (and gear upgrades) under my belt since the first HoD Hang. Sure would be nice to be up there with y'all.

We had 9 or 10 at the one last year, I think. I know there is one over in Georgia this weekend...maybe that is affecting some attendance. TheStrowd has mentioned interest, and might bring his wife. I will ask him...since I work with him.

It is never a bad weekend when you are in the woods with fellow hangers.

Right now we have 9 confirmed hangers and 4 or 5 possibles. I would have made it the last weekend of the month but that is Halloween and new attendance would be lower than what we have listed. There is also a hang going on in LA as well that weekend, plus Neo's hang is the weekend before.

You can expect a few to come on board here in a couple of days as plans fall into place plus we will need to discuss if there will be a group dinner on Saturday night.

Lol Ok, I was afraid I was scaring folks off with my talk of hiking in. That is just me. This is my fav spot to backpack so I instantly wanted to mix that in. Sorry to be selfish, I am just excited about the trip.

I would like to do some hiking in myself if we can. I have been itching to do that and plan to possibly have a new pack I want to test. McDill point looks like a beautiful location.

Pencil me in. According to my wife I've already overspent my camping time budget for the year but she might let me do this....

As far as a hike in campsite I would recommend the one we have video of that is at the base of the hill where Cheaha Shelter is located. This is roughly a mile from the parking lot. Or we go the site from last year and you can hike up the hill and catch the Pinhoti and other various trials. I am open to all options but will put a vote in for base camping and hiking around on Saturday so we can have a great pot-luck dinner like last year.

Man for a hike in, I would highly recommend hiking down Cave Creek trail from Cheaha trailhead to the point where it intersects Nubbin Creek trail. Beautiful hike, excellent views, quick cross over to the pinhoti, very excellent hang spot. I stood around there for an hour just imagining all the hang cominations this spring.

Just my 2 cents, I'll do whatever you guys want to. This spot is very close to Cave creek which is a very good flowing water source. About a 10 minute walk from the site.
