Welcome Heescha! You are off to a good start! But how have you been keeping warm on the bottom, way up in SD? Are you using a pad?

If you are looking for info, just search the forum for pads or under quilts or Super Shelter. You will find about a zillion threads and posts on the pros and cons of these choices, any of which can get the job done. Each approach has it's supporters and detractors.

Or, you can start a thread with your specific questions. Enjoy the new camping comforts and freedoms that are possible with hammocks!

    Welcome Heescha....

I have the same exact setup as cgul1 and am planning on putting in a zipper. I am just afraid I will ruin my hammock.

I also like my Super Shelter, but I think the Nest is slightly warmer. I just ordered a weather shield for my UQ, it should be here this week.

I do have some reviews of SS and UQ's in my blog: www.hammockcamping.blogspot.com

well thanks for all the warm welcome guys! i am looking at possibly making my own underquilt, just need more information. as far as the zipper...where are you placing it?

haha, i've spent the last three nights outside in 10 degree weather. No underquilt, no pad, just an military intermediat surplus bag that is good down to 10 degrees. I just wear long johns and a sweatshirt, but boy, it sure gets chilly!

HERE is a link to download the plans (PDF format) for a Potomac underquilt (synthetic, shaped to fit a HH). It has no zippers, though.

    welcome to HF heescha.
if you've been getting by w/ the set up you described, you'll be in hog heaven when you get an underquilt.
you'll find lots of info here about the different underquilts available commercially Speers hammock has a the Snugfit underquilt & JRB has several.
also several sources for making your own. ...tim
