Ditto all the above comments. Your service is much appreciated. Did you leave your hammock with a buddy or did you bring it home?

Hey, welcome home! I lived in Afghanistan during the summer on and off from 1969 to when the Russians invaded...I loved that country and it's people...one of my best, all time memories was living in Paghman...West of Kabul, west of the dam...first time I went there I rode a horse, alone (I was a very blond American female in my 20's then) from Kabul to see friends living there...ended up living there for 6 months with my girlfriend...wonderful! magical...I still cook Afghan dishes as I really liked the food there...

Well, it's all gone now and that breaks my heart...I am glad you returned and thank you for your service...

OK, hammocks in Afghanistan...trees are not exactly prolific...where and how were you able to deploy it...were you on a base or in the hills? a lot of Afghanistan looks like the moon...LOL...

Actually I would usually string it between two armoured vehicles or off the defensive positions at the various FOB's. For a joke we tried to set it up by lashing to the HUGE and I mean HUGE pot plants that they grow EVERYWHERE, but it would not hold up my 215 lbs. I brought it home, as the old saying goes "one man, one kit"! I did tell the lads where they could get one though.
It is hard to imagine Afghanistan as you saw it back then, having now done two combat tours there. I am sure hoping I don't have to get the hat trick!! I was in and around Kabul on my first tour, and just spent this one in Kandahar province.
(I promise to try and get a couple pics up, just being lazy)

Thanks big time for what you all have done and are doing over there. I never realised that you'd have individual shelters.
